We began with a “king’s breakfast”, stayed in a former convent, found the story of Chinese market gardener Wong Foo in the local museum, then wandered through a racecourse, winter wetlands and mineral spas. What stayed with us was less a list of places than the trust, memory and ordinary life of Te Aroha.
